Contractor Foreman is a low-cost construction app for general, sub, trade and service contractors, priced per company by how many users you need. Contractor Foreman does not offer: service requests from the field, shop queue, digital hauling tickets, AI reader for tickets & receipts. Contractor Foreman doesn't list these either: automatic daily reports for the office, Job Safety Analyses (JSAs).

No: they do not offer it. Their own website says so, or it isn’t in the full feature list they publish (linked). Add-on: a paid add-on, a separate product or a higher plan. Limited: they have something close but narrower. Not listed (n/l on small screens): we searched their site and help pages and couldn’t find it, but they don’t publish a full list we could check.

This chart is SmartCrew’s feature list, so it doesn’t show what other products do that SmartCrew doesn’t (like estimating, payroll or hardware time clocks). Each comparison covers that in “where they’re the better pick”. SmartCrew’s Fleet Management, Sales CRM, and Scheduling & Communications are Premium categories; feature availability varies by plan.

Where each mark comes from

The short version

  • SmartCrew is built for one kind of company: dirtwork and heavy civil contractors with 5 to 100 employees.
  • Contractor Foreman's list prices are $49, $105, $166, $221 and $332 a month billed annually, for 1, 3, 8, 15 and unlimited users. The price is for the company, not per user.
  • Time cards, daily logs, equipment logs, crew schedule, safety meetings, job costing reports and QuickBooks Online start on Plus. A 15-person crew lands on Pro: $2,654 a year billed annually, or $279 a month.
  • Contractor Foreman is the better pick for estimates, takeoffs, a client portal, AIA invoicing and a low flat price.
  • Its equipment logs track hours and maintenance. We couldn't find haul tickets, DOT inspections or a shop queue on its pages.

Contractor Foreman is better for other trades. SmartCrew is built for dirtwork.

Contractor Foreman's home page says it was created for small and medium sized residential and commercial trade and general contractors. Its who we serve pages cover general contractors, subcontractors, trade contractors and service contractors. For those companies, Contractor Foreman is the better pick.

SmartCrew is built for one thing: heavy civil and dirtwork contractors with 5 to 100 employees. Excavation, grading, sitework, underground utilities, paving, road construction, demolition, septic, directional drilling and land clearing. That's all we do.

Where Contractor Foreman falls short on a dirtwork job:

  • Field tools start on Plus, which caps at 8 users. A 15-person crew lands on Pro: $279 a month billed monthly.
  • Not listed: haul tickets, DOT inspections, a shop queue or an AI ticket reader. Its equipment logs track hours and maintenance.
  • Offline is new. Its what's new page says offline time cards started rolling out in preview, plan by plan, in April 2026. A lot of dirt jobs have no signal.

What Contractor Foreman is, and who it's for

Contractor Foreman was founded in 2017 and is based in Forest City, North Carolina. Its home page says it was created for small and medium sized residential and commercial trade and general contractors. It sells to general contractors, subs, trade contractors and service contractors. Its pricing page says its customers run from tiny shops to companies with 300+ employees.

The pitch is a lot of software for a low price. Estimates, bids, leads, purchase orders, a Gantt schedule, a crew schedule, time cards, daily logs, equipment logs, safety meetings, team chat, a client portal and a QuickBooks Online sync. For a remodeler or a small GC, that can replace a whole drawer full of apps.

Breadth is the point, and it's also the trade-off. Software built for every trade has to stay general. Haul tickets, DOT inspections and a shop queue are dirtwork problems, and we didn't find them on its site.

How much does Contractor Foreman cost?

Contractor Foreman publishes a flat price for the whole company, with a cap on users for each plan. Here's what its pricing page listed on October 26, 2026. We checked it in a browser that day.

Every plan starts with a 30-day free trial. Annual plans have a 100-day money-back guarantee and monthly plans 30 days. Online card payments run 2.9% + $0.30. Source: Contractor Foreman pricing, October 26, 2026. Prices and plans change.

That's a low price for what's in the box. Two things to ask before you buy. First, how they count a user, because the plan you need depends on it. Second, how the app works out of coverage: its what's new page says offline time cards only started rolling out in preview, plan by plan, in April 2026.

SmartCrew starts at $99/month, and it's built to be well below the cost of enterprise construction software. Contact us for team pricing.

The key difference: built for every trade vs built only for dirtwork

Contractor Foreman's goal is to fit every contractor. Ours is narrower on purpose.

We're not trying to serve every construction trade or build complicated software for massive enterprise companies. We're building SmartCrew for family businesses like ours.

Andrew Drish, founder of SmartCrew

When you build for one trade, you can build for its headaches. Here's where that shows up on a heavy civil job.

Machines and the shop

Contractor Foreman has real equipment tools on Plus and up. Its equipment and vehicle logs track hours, mileage and maintenance by miles or hours used, and the logs can note fuel and fluid checks.

What we didn't find is a DOT or daily inspection the operator signs off, service requests from the field, or a shop queue. In SmartCrew those come with Fleet Management. The operator runs the inspection on his phone, flags a problem, and the shop sees it with its urgency and status.

Trucks and loads

Contractor Foreman's daily logs record materials delivered and used, and a delivery can update the purchase order. Fuel gallons go in the equipment logs. That's material tracking for a builder. We didn't find a haul ticket, and its AI shows up in takeoffs and support chat, not in reading tickets.

SmartCrew's hauling log keeps every load: ticket, truck, project, import or export, material, yards and pit. The driver snaps a photo and the AI reader fills it in.

Knowing your profit every day

Contractor Foreman's job costing reports show estimate against actual and which items made or lost money, on Plus and up. That's good. SmartCrew puts the job's profit in front of you every day, with budget against spent for labor, materials, equipment, other costs and change orders. You find out a job is slipping while you can still do something about it.

What the crew has to do

On Plus and up, your guys can do a lot from the phone in Contractor Foreman: time cards with GPS and cost codes, daily logs and safety meetings. Machine hours are entered in the daily log.

In SmartCrew the operator picks the job, the activity code and the machine right at clock-in. When he moves to a different task or machine, he hits Log & Switch. One app, one tap, and the hours land where they belong.

SmartCrew equipment inspection form on a phone: DOT or daily inspection, machine, hours or miles, and pass or fail checks for brakes, steering, lights and tires
A SmartCrew machine record for a dump truck: hours, mileage, last and next service, and its log of DOT inspections with operator, date, odometer reading and status

A DOT inspection on the operator's phone, and the truck's record with hours, mileage, service dates and its inspection log. (Demo account.)

SmartCrew phone app while clocked in: time on the clock, the project, the activity code and the machine being run, with Break, Log & Switch and Clock Out
A SmartCrew job page for a culvert replacement: revenue, expenses and profit, budget versus spent for labor, materials, equipment, other costs and change orders, a jobsite map and hours by employee

On the clock with the project, activity code and machine showing, and the job page with budget against spent. (Demo data.)

How Contractor Foreman stacks up against the other construction management tools

Contractor Foreman sits in the same group as Procore, HCSS HeavyJob, Raken and JobTread: software built to run whole projects or whole companies. Many of its marks below depend on the plan. In the chart, Add-on means Contractor Foreman lists it on a higher plan, mostly Plus and up.

Feature chartSmartCrew vs enterprise and construction management software

Built to run big projects or every kind of contractor. Lots of power, but more setup, more screens and a bigger bill than most 5 to 100 person dirtwork companies need.

Where each mark comes from

When Contractor Foreman still makes sense

Contractor Foreman makes sense when you need the office and the customer side covered for a low price, across more than one trade.

Pick SmartCrew if

  • You run excavators, loaders, dozers and dump trucks and want inspections, service requests and a shop queue tied to each machine.
  • You haul, and you want every load ticket in the system without anyone typing it in.
  • You want profit against the bid every day, not at the end of the job.
  • You want software from a company that only builds for heavy civil, run by a family that runs crews.
  • You have 5 to 100 employees and want us to set up your account and train your people.

Pick Contractor Foreman if

  • You're a general contractor, sub or service contractor running more than one trade.
  • You do estimates, takeoffs and AIA invoicing and want them in the same app as the field.

The best Contractor Foreman alternatives in 2026

Start with why you're shopping. If it's price, Contractor Foreman is hard to beat on paper. If it's the iron and the loads, you need something built for heavy civil.

  1. SmartCrew, for dirtwork and heavy civil companies with 5 to 100 employees that want the crew, the machines, the loads and the job's profit in one app. That's us, so read this pick with that in mind.
  2. JobTread, one plan with every feature for $199 a month plus a sliding price per added user, built around estimates, budgets and customer invoices. See JobTread vs SmartCrew.
  3. HCSS HeavyJob, the enterprise pick for heavy civil contractors that self-perform with their own crews and equipment, priced by quote. See HCSS HeavyJob vs SmartCrew.
  4. Raken, construction software with daily reporting and time tracking in its base plan, priced by quote. See Raken vs SmartCrew.
  5. Procore, for owners and big general contractors, priced by the products you need and your construction volume. See Procore vs SmartCrew.
  6. BusyBusy, if all you want is a GPS time card. It has a free plan. See BusyBusy vs SmartCrew.

Contractor Foreman is a builder's app. For heavy civil field software, use the hcss alternative, the b2w alternative, and dirt work software with crm.

Questions people ask

Is Contractor Foreman good for excavation companies?

It covers a lot for the price, and on Plus and up it has time cards, daily logs and equipment logs with hours and maintenance. We couldn't find haul tickets, DOT inspections or a shop queue on its site. If those run your week, SmartCrew is built only for dirtwork and heavy civil.

How much does Contractor Foreman cost for a crew of 15?

If all 15 people need a login, the Plus plan (up to 8 users) is too small, so you'd be on Pro. On October 26, 2026, Pro listed at $2,654 a year billed annually (about $221 a month) or $279 a month billed monthly, for up to 15 users.

Which Contractor Foreman plan has time cards?

Plus and up. Its pricing page shows time cards, daily logs, equipment and vehicle logs, crew schedule, safety meetings, job costing reports and QuickBooks Online on Plus, Pro and Unlimited, not on Basic or Standard.

Does Contractor Foreman have DOT inspections or haul tickets?

We couldn't find either on its site. Its equipment logs can note fuel and fluid checks, and its daily logs record materials delivered. SmartCrew has DOT and daily inspections on the phone and digital haul tickets with an AI reader.

Does Contractor Foreman work offline?

Its what's new page says offline time cards started rolling out in preview, plan by plan, in April 2026. If your crews work out of coverage, ask whether it's on your plan before you sign.

Does Contractor Foreman integrate with QuickBooks?

Yes, with QuickBooks Online on Plus and up. Invoices, bills, payments and expenses sync both ways. QuickBooks Desktop isn't listed on its pricing FAQ. SmartCrew integrates with QuickBooks Online today, and we're working on QuickBooks Desktop, Foundation, ADP and more.

How much does SmartCrew cost?

SmartCrew starts at $99/month, and it's built to be well below the cost of enterprise construction software. Contact us for team pricing.
