Contractor+ vs SmartCrew (2026): Pricing, Features & Best Alternatives

Contractor+ is a CRM and field service app with a free plan and more than 40 trades on its list, from carpet cleaning and pest control to roofing and junk removal. SmartCrew is built only for heavy civil and dirtwork companies with 5 to 100 employees: crews, machines, inspections, haul tickets, daily reports and job profit in one app. If you run iron, not house calls, that's SmartCrew.

Contractor+ does not offer: DOT & daily inspections, AI reader for tickets & receipts, company announcements, Job Safety Analyses (JSAs), toolbox talks & safety meetings, incident reports. Contractor+ doesn't list these either: geofencing around the job site, pick the machine at clock-in, supervisor dashboard, clock in/out reminders, bid budgets vs. actual costs, service requests from the field, shop queue, automatic daily reports for the office, deliveries & production tracking.

No: they do not offer it. Their own website says so, or it isn’t in the full feature list they publish (linked). Add-on: a paid add-on, a separate product or a higher plan. Limited: they have something close but narrower. Not listed (n/l on small screens): we searched their site and help pages and couldn’t find it, but they don’t publish a full list we could check.

This chart is SmartCrew’s feature list, so it doesn’t show what other products do that SmartCrew doesn’t (like estimating, payroll or hardware time clocks). Each comparison covers that in “where they’re the better pick”. SmartCrew’s Fleet Management, Sales CRM, and Scheduling & Communications are Premium categories; feature availability varies by plan.

Where each mark comes from

The short version

  • SmartCrew is built only for dirtwork and heavy civil: the clock-in, the machine, the inspection, the load and the job's profit in one app.
  • Contractor+ has a free plan, Pro Team at $58 a month for 2 users plus $20 for each added user, and MAX at $500 a month for unlimited users.
  • Worked out from list prices, 15 people on Pro Team come to $318 a month. At 40 people, MAX at $500 a month is the cheaper plan.
  • Contractor+ is the better pick for a small trade business that lives on leads, quotes, invoices and phone calls, and wants to start free.
  • We couldn't find cost codes, DOT inspections, a shop queue, daily reports or safety forms on Contractor+'s own pages.
  • SmartCrew starts at $99/month. Contact us for team pricing.
A SmartCrew job page for a culvert replacement: revenue, expenses and profit, budget versus spent for labor, materials, equipment, other costs and change orders, a jobsite map and hours by employee
SmartCrew phone app while clocked in: time on the clock, the project, the activity code and the machine being run, with Break, Log & Switch and Clock Out

Contractor+ is better for service trades. SmartCrew is built for dirtwork.

Contractor+'s industries menu lists more than 40 trades: carpet cleaning, chimney sweeping, garage doors, junk removal, locksmiths, pest control, pressure washing, window cleaning and more. For those businesses, Contractor+ is the better pick.

SmartCrew is built for one thing: heavy civil and dirtwork contractors with 5 to 100 employees. Excavation, grading, sitework, underground utilities, paving, road construction, demolition, septic, directional drilling and land clearing. That's all we do.

Where Contractor+ falls short on a dirtwork job:

  • The fleet and ticket claims live in a blog post. Its own excavation roundup claims ticket tracking and fleet tools. We couldn't find a feature page for either.
  • Not listed: cost codes, DOT inspections, a shop queue, daily reports or safety forms.
  • The free plan is for leads. FREEDOM caps at 250 leads and clients and 5 estimates or invoices a month. Job costing, team chat and QuickBooks start on Pro Team.
  • Per user past two. Pro Team adds $20 for each user after 2, so 15 people come to $318 a month.

What Contractor+ is, and who it's for

Contractor+ sells itself as an all-in-one app for contractors. Its industry list runs from handyman, cleaning and pest control to roofing, paving, septic and an excavation page. The center of it is the customer: CRM, estimates, invoices, payments, a client portal, a business phone line and AI tools.

On the field side it has GPS-stamped time tracking, a drag-and-drop schedule with a live view of your crews, and a group chat for each job.

It's a lot of tool for the price, built for businesses that run lots of customer jobs. A dirtwork company runs on different things. Hours by machine. Loads by truck. An inspection before the dozer moves.

How much does Contractor+ cost?

Contractor+ publishes its prices. Here's what its pricing page listed on October 28, 2026.

Annual billing saves up to 40%, but annual prices aren't listed. Source: Contractor+ pricing, October 28, 2026. Prices and plans change.

SmartCrew starts at $99/month, and it's built to be well below the cost of enterprise construction software. Contact us for team pricing.

The key difference: built for the customer vs built for the crew and the iron

When we went looking for software for our own family business, nothing fit. We only run 20-30 guys and there was nothing specifically designed for our size of heavy civil business. Contractor+ is built around the customer and the visit. SmartCrew is built around the crew, the iron and the load.

Machines and the shop

Contractor+'s excavation page says you can log equipment hours, fuel costs and maintenance directly in each project for job costing. Its own excavation software roundup, which ranks Contractor+ first, also claims fleet management with utilization insights. We couldn't find a feature page that shows it.

In SmartCrew every machine has a record: hours, mileage, last and next service, and its inspection log. The operator picks the machine at clock-in, so the hours come from the work itself. When something breaks, it goes from the cab to the shop's service queue with how urgent it is. We couldn't find DOT inspections or a shop queue on Contractor+'s site.

Trucks and loads

The same roundup claims daily ticket and dump tracking. Again, we couldn't find a feature page for it. In SmartCrew the haul ticket is the record. Truck, project, import or export, material, yards and the pit it came from. Snap a photo of the paper ticket and the AI reader fills it in.

Time, cost codes and the daily report

Contractor+ ties every clock-in to a job or task, with GPS at clock-in and clock-out. We couldn't find cost codes, a supervisor view or daily reports. SmartCrew's crew clocks in on the job, the activity code and the machine, and the foreman's daily report, photos and production log go to the office automatically.

Knowing your profit every day

Contractor+ lists automated job costing and profit tracking on Pro Team. We didn't find budget against actual. In SmartCrew the job page shows revenue, expenses and profit, with budget against spent for labor, materials, equipment, other costs and change orders, updated from what the crew logs every day.

Contractor+ vs the other field service apps

Contractor+ sits with Jobber and QuoteIQ: apps built for businesses that quote, schedule and bill a lot of customer jobs. Here's how each one lines up against SmartCrew's full feature list, marked from each company's own website.

Feature chartSmartCrew vs field service and quoting apps

Built for service businesses that quote, schedule and invoice lots of small jobs. Good at the customer side, not the crew, machine and haul side of heavy civil work.

Where each mark comes from

When Contractor+ still makes sense

  • You have 5 to 100 employees and want us to set it up and train your people.

  • You're a small trade business and want to start on a free plan.
